Makeup Palettes That Are Not Worth the Hype

October 1, 2016

Have you ever bought an item solely based off of its popularity and immediately regretted it? Believe it or not, many people in the makeup community do this without hesitation. Many makeup brands create unique palettes that draw customers in and persuade them into purchasing their palette, resulting in the customer spending anywhere from $35-$55. Let’s face it, some of us can’t afford spending $60 every time a brand decides to launch a new palette.

The first palette that is definitely not worth the $45 price tag is the Tarte X Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen palette. This palette features nine eyeshadows, a bronzer, blush and a highlighter. It contains four orange shades, which most palettes already have. Also, the purple eyeshadows in this palette show up as an off-grey color when applied. Although these eyeshadows swatch amazingly, they do have major fallout.

Katelynn Smith, a GCHS Junior stated, “I wanted to love the Swamp Queen palette so much, but I just felt underwhelmed by it. My hopes were really high and I was so disappointed with the quality.”

Overall, the palette could have definitely been better, considering the price.

The second palette that is not worth the hype is the original Naked palette from Urban Decay. This palette retails for $54. The Naked palette has twelve eyeshadows, but like the Swamp Queen palette, most of them have
fallout. In all honesty, you are very limited to the amount of looks you can create with this palette.

The last palette that should just be skipped entirely is The Nudes by Maybelline. Like the Swamp Queen palette, these eyeshadows do swatch fairly well, but do not show up on your eyes, nor will they blend. Even though this palette is only $9, it would be best to just save your money and buy a slightly more expensive palette that is actually worth the money.

It’s always best to read and watch reviews of a product before you choose to buy it. Always remember to be a smart shopper.
