The Granite City High School Boys Basketball 2016-2017 season is coming up quickly. The team has lost some very talented players, but a new head coach has taken the reins and new players look to help the team excel. The team had a great season last year and won many victories. The Tribe is excited to see what this season has in store and how the boys will take the court.

“As long as we play as a team and stay together as brothers. We will do wonderful things!””

— Kendrick Williba

The new head coach for the team is Raffi Karibian, who was a head coach for the GCHS girls team during 2010-2014, and he was an assistant coach for many years as well.

‘I think the team is very young and will show tremendous growth and hope to go into the regional tournament.” He continued, “I’m very excited. I like to take the opportunities any time I get the chance and it’s an honor to lead the program.”

Does Coach Karibian look to improve on last year’s team, or is this a year of rebuilding?

“The overall record last year was very good. Unfortunately, we lost three very talented players. They were Kenny Berry, Trey Allen, and Ron Allen, who are difficult players to lose, but with hard work and dedication I think we will improve this year and have a great season.”

Everyone from The Tribe is excited to see the outcome of this season. Last year was an amazing season with many great moments. Tryouts are soon (November 7th), and this season should be a great season. Congratulations to Raffi Karibian on becoming the head coach. Come and watch the boys and support your Warriors!
