“The” Josh Mckinney, a 22 year old from Granite City, IL spends a lot of his time making sure his hair is perfect, and on social media he makes people laugh and offers interesting advice on life. He strives for likes and followers on social media to get his name out there and be successful. He carries a passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and is currently ranked as a brown belt. He competes in gi and no gi competitions. He started training at the age of 14 because he was looking for a way to lose weight.

Basically always remember where you came from.”

“Basically always remember where you came from,” said Mckinney as he explained that while he is training and instructing he remembers that not everyone is in the gym to compete. There are many different reasons why people train (Josh started to lose weight).

He went into his first class at Hit-Squad and fell in love with it.

Now he is a co-owner of Fitness and More Inc., and is the head instructor of the HeadNodHQ training facility. He’s also a Pan Am Champion, which is one of America’s biggest BJJ competitions. His personal goal is to expand his gym and and make successful fighters and practitioners of jiu jitsu.

Adam Marburger (one of Josh’s friends) is a real-estate investor and a car dealer at AutoCenters Nissan. Apart from all the work with the real-estate business, the car dealership, and spending valuable time with his wife and kids, he is also a jiu jitsu practitioner. Adam started kickboxing his junior year in high school until he was 19 years old. At 21 he met a lot of different people and started training in BJJ. At the age of 29 he started training in mixed martial arts and no gi BJJ. He soon met Josh and started fighting year round. Adam and his wife are very passionate about cancer research and it’s in their hearts to help as much as they can towards cancer research. In June Adam and his wife are going to Alaska to run a half marathon for the LLS and are currently raising money for cancer research HERE.

One year ago Mckinney and Adam Marburger co-founded their company, the HeadNodSquad. They got the name after making videos on social media of members and friends giving the camera a head nod. They design apparel and sponsor fighters all around the country. 10% of each sale is sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to help with cancer research. Right now they are sponsoring over 200 fighters including pro MMA and BJJ fighters across the country. “Our goal, as cheesy as it sounds, is basically to help people,” Mckinney said. His company looks forward to seeing how far they go and how big of an impact they can make.
