Warrior Football is BACK!!!

Levar Smith, Staff Writer

Kendrick Lyons, starting quarterback for the Warriors, is excited for the first home game on the turf tonight as they take on Champaign Central Maroons. Lyons transferred to GCHS this fall from O’Fallon Township High School along with his father, head Coach Kindle Lyons. He is especially excited to bring a home opener winner after the tough loss last Friday against Carbondale.

Lyons scored four touchdowns during last Friday’s game, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Carbondale as they scored in the last twenty seconds to edge the Warriors 34-32. Lyons was pleased with the improvement made by the team from the previous game against Jerseyville.

Lyons stated that he loves performing under pressure and said, “I live for stuff like this. When we win this game, it’s going to feel good coming back to school on Monday. We are going to have the whole community out there tonight, and we want to be the first team to win on it.”

Most of the players will be returning next year, and Lyons states that will dramatically improve the football program since the team is currently comprised of younger athletes. He is confident that all of the “pieces of the puzzle” will come together tonight. Come out and support our Granite City Warrior Football team!!
